- To remember/identify the components of share capital, debentures, underwriting commission, legal requirements for altering share capital and provisions for preparing company final accounts.
- To understand the process of issuing shares, accounting treatment of underwriting commission, process of issue and redemption of debentures, accounting treatment of share capital alteration, format and content of final accounts for joint stock companies
- To apply accounting principles to record the issue, forfeiture and reissue of shares, calculate the amount of underwriting commission, apply accounting principles to record the issue and redemption of debentures, accounting treatment for issue of bonus shares and redemption of preference shares, preparation of financial statements of joint stock companies
- To analyse the implications of share capital transactions and share capital alteration on financial statements of a company, impact of debentures on the financial structure of a company, financial position and performance of a joint stock company using final accounts.
- To evaluate the effectiveness of underwriting agreements in mitigating risks for issuing companies, potential consequences of share capital alteration on shareholder interests, financial health and performance of a joint stock company based on its final accounts (for class discussion)
