In 1936, Hargovandas Lakhmichand College of Commerce, fondly known as HL College of Commerce or HLCC, was founded by the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES). With a pioneering vision, the college was established through the generous donations of Shri Amritlal Hargovandas and Shri Tribhovandas Hargovandas, in the sacred memory of their father, Shri Hargovandas Lakhmichand.
Over the past 80+ years, HL College of Commerce has built a distinguished reputation in the field of commerce education. Through its innovative teaching methods, the college has continually shaped generations of students who have excelled in both academics and life. The foundation of our success lies in a commitment to imparting value-based education, fostering intellectual growth, and nurturing well-rounded individuals.
A New Milestone: Autonomy
In 2023, HLCC achieved a historic milestone by receiving Autonomous Status from the University Grants Commission (UGC). This autonomy empowers the college to design its own curriculum and introduce innovative teaching methods. With this newfound status, HLCC launched three undergraduate-level programs under the Autonomous framework, marking a new era in its journey.

National Recognition
Our college’s outstanding reputation has earned it recognition both within India and abroad. We have been honored with the prestigious Best College in Gujarat award twice. Additionally, the college has earned high accolades from NAAC, with an A+ Grade (2005), followed by A Grade (2012) and B++ Grade (2019).
