HL acknowledges the importance of extra and co-curricular activities in the overall development of the personality of the students. The College offers a bouquet of varied activities considering the interests and talents of a heterogeneous group of students. Sports
Aimed at an all-round development of students, the college lays special emphasis on sports and games. With facilities for sports like cricket, basketball, volley ball, football, table tennis and chess available on the campus itself, students are motivated to play for recreation and physical activity; as well as to represent the college at different competitions at various levels. Students of the college have participated at international levels for sports like swimming, skating, chess and cricket.
National Cadet Corps (NCC)
NCC is a Tri-Services Youth Organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of India into disciplined and patriotic citizens. HL has a battalion of around 100 cadets including girls under 1 Gujarat Battalion NCC (Army wing). Regular drills on campus inculcate discipline and the cadets later go for prestigious camps like Republic Day Camp, Advanced Leadership Camp, Army Attachment Camp, Youth Exchange Camp, etc. NCC cadets get preference in selection for various state government jobs like police department, home guards, etc. A cadet who has secured at least B grade in C certificate exam also gets an opportunity of direct commission into the Armed Forces as an Officer.
National Service Scheme (NSS)
The NSS unit of students works with the objective to identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving. The unit works for national integration and social harmony. It utilizes its knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems. The college NSS unit enrolls 100 students who organize community service programs like blood donation, tree plantation, Swachhta abhiyaan, etc. The students organize awareness drives for diseases like cancer, aids, thalassemia, etc.; conduct visits to old-age homes and hospitals; and have residential camps at villages.
Model United Nation (MUN)
The HLCCMUN pioneered MUNning in Gujarat in 2013 in order to strengthen students’ ability to debate and encourage a deeper understanding of the nuances of diplomacy, international politics and relations. Students learn to present their research in a stimulated setting. The HLCC MUN Society was initiated in 2016 with the objective of giving training via Mock MUNs and to make HLCC MUN a regular annual event.
HL Times
H L Times provides a canvass to the college students for expression of creativity, in the form of writing, painting or cartooning. It aims to hone the creative skills of the students through three main activities: fortnightly Wall Issue, monthly Library Corner and an annual print magazine. HL Times provides a platform to the students to showcase their talents in creative writing, fine arts and editing; and to develop marketing, team building and leadership qualities.
Orators' Podium
Good communication skills are imperative for a successful career. The Orators’ Podium encourages students to ameliorate their oratorical and creative skills by holding discussions and competitions throughout the year at the inter-class level for events like debates, hat speeches, elocution, poetry recitation, poetry completion, creative writing, story writing, essay writing and group discussions. The club motivates and prepares them to participate in various competitions at the inter-collegiate level. This club organizes the prestigious all Gujarat Mahatma Gandhi Inter-collegiate Elocution Trophy Competition and the S C Dwivedi Inter-class Elocution Trophy Competition annually, in addition to “Campus Conversations” on a regular basis.
Jhankaar Beats Dance Club
The Jhankaar Beats Dance Club provides opportunities to students to learn dance by organizing workshops in folk dance and western dance at the college campus. It provides a platform to the students to showcase their talent by organizing dance competitions at the college. It also encourages participation in various inter-college classical, folk and western dance competitions in the city by providing appropriate facilities to the students.
Harmony Music Club
The Harmony Music Club helps students polish their musical talents by organizing workshops for vocal and instrumental Indian as well as Western music. It provides an opportunity to the students to showcase their talent at various music competitions at the college. It also encourages students to participate at various inter-college music competitions in the city by providing them with appropriate facilities. The Club also has its Music Band.
Rainbow Palette Club
The Rainbow Palette Club at the college is a Club for different fine and commercial arts activities, like painting, poster making, collage, cartooning, rangoli, mehndi, clay modeling, photography, face painting, hair braiding, etc. Inter-class competitions are organized whereby students can showcase their skills. The club also organizes workshops to provide required training to the students, and motivates them to participate at various inter-college competitions.
Theatre Artists Club
The Theatre Artists Club aims at developing the theatrical skills of the students and provides a platform to express their creativity in events like drama, skit, mono-acting, mimicry and mime. Workshops are organized to impart basic training to students in stage co-ordination, script writing and role playing. Students are provided facilities to participate at various inter-collegiate competitions.
Einstein’s Protégées Quiz Club
The Quiz Club is aimed at raising the general awareness standards of the college students. The club organizes inter-class competitions as well as motivates students to represent the college at various inter-college quiz competitions.
HLCC SAYEN Eco Buddy Club
Aimed at sensitizing the students towards various environmental issues, HL collaborated with South Asia Youth Environment Network (SAYEN) to form the HLCC SAYEN Eco Buddy Club. The club organizes different activities targeted to environment conservation and sustainable practices.
TEDx HLCC
The college has got the license to organize a TEDx event from TED. TEDxHLCC has the passion to provide a great podium for thinkers and visionaries to share their ideas with the world and trigger conversations that matter. This initiative intends to explore the frontiers of ground breaking ideas that could reshape our future.
